DATA CENTERS ARE DESCENDING ON OUR REGION

DATA CENTERS ARE DESCENDING ON OUR REGION, FROM SOCORRO TO SANTA TERESA.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Borderland region governments are giving out massive tax incentives to bring in data centers that soak up millions of gallons of water a day and raise our electric bills.

Doña Ana County Commissioners are scheduled to vote September 19th on a proposal to approve a $165 billion dollar multi-data center campus along with billions of dollars of tax breaks for the company.

El Paso city council agreed to give Meta a 25-year property tax abatement and is allowing them to use up to 1.5 Millions of gallons of water a day for their data center in North East El Paso.

In June of 2025:

  • El Paso County Commissioners approved an agreement with Wiwynn, providing up to $2.03 million in tax and job training incentives.

  • The Socorro City Council also approved an agreement with Wiwynn to provide up to $1.25 million in personal property tax rebates for their data center manufacturing project.

WHY IS IT A PROBLEM?

One large data center can use up to 5 million gallons of water a day. In a drought struck desert region where farmers are getting cut off of water, and residents have to organize against yellow tap water with arsenic, governments can not be begging these data centers to come in with promises of "development."

WHAT CAN WE DO?

People in Missouri, Arizona, Tennessee, have organized to cancel Data Center projects and win real community benefit agreements for companies that are using their resources.
